North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is researching ways to customize science education incorporating innovative educational technology for traditionally under-served populations. The School of Education at NCCU offers a rich variety of undergraduate and graduate programs to license teachers and administrators for the public schools of North Carolina. As a Minority Serving Institution, NCCU helps teachers and administrators customize programs that integrate interactive software and simulations with inquiry-based methods.

At NCCU, pre-service and in-service teachers collaborate with other TELS partners to research the impact of TELS activities and materials on underserved students.
