Arizona State University contributes to TELS through research about English Language Learners. Leveraging the resources of TELS interactive software and simulations, this group interweaves linguistic, metacognitive and translation functions based on findings from bilingual education.
 
 
Douglas Clark directs the TODOS (Technology Opening Diverse Opportunities for Science) group, which studies how computer and Internet technology can improve equity in science learning for minority populations of Hispanic descent. The TODOS group investigates how English Language Learners benefit from using two languages to probe complex concepts. The group investigates computer-based support for scientific discourse. The group’s research seeks to integrate home and school language to facilitate students' use of metalinguistic and metacognitive knowledge to enhance science learning and proficiency in academic English discourse. Clark teaches courses on science teaching methods, conceptual change in science and educational technology.
