Design Meeting 06-08-01

  • Decide on Webrenderer versus JDIC PAS-91@issues
  • What/When is the next deadline (Not until October?)
    • Consider shorter iteration cycles with more frequent user feedback?
    • Month of August, Tony works on services, Scott works on SDS
      • Tony: note service (used by note step to support popup window, should be generalized, notes are strange, UI fixes due to note popup, ); Agent service (used by beans to get socks for their rims, as well as getting current user); sessionService (lets pods add listeners to global session);
      • Scott SDS; Sail Data Service, authoring amd learner
  • What are the Projects for October, if they arent known what is the procedure/timeframe for figuring out
    • Known users of SAIL: Jennie, Helen, Kevin, Erika...
      Freda commented:
In selecting the teachers for the fall I think we should consider some qualities of the teacher and school.

      - teacher is working directly with the lead on the module (i.e., Kevin, Jennie, etc.)
      - comfort level of teacher running modules (seasoned user)
      - teacher able to manage students if/when there are time delays, issues, etc.
      - hardware/software availability or supplement if necessary (?)
Some modules are probably better candidates for an initial roll out than others. Would they be Airbags and Velocity?

    • Review Technology Research Planning Pages there is one for each research question. Need to figure out which projects could be done in SAIL, and then figure out what work needs to be done to make each one work.
  • Can a Toronto programmer help for October deadline, we need work on the SDS (sail data services).
    • Not until Sept. at the earliest.
    • Jim will have 2 people, server portal developer, another java programer using Pas to build things.
    • Could use java programer to write test cases.
    • Probably won't start until mid aug. or early sept.
  • Review/comment on high level tasks for October. The following list basically collapses the outline on this page: Notes From Retreat 06
    • PAS & Authoring Code refactoring
      • services for Notes and Hints don't work
      • Rubin run code has been hacked in, needs to be cleaned up.
    • Learner Data - sail data services (SDS) or micro portal (MP)
    • Offerings - launched from wise using link to SDS or MP
    • Reporting - MP web reports, Java grading tool
    • Global bug fixes in PLR
    • Bug fixes in selected curnits
    • New features for selected curnits
      • New models using existing environments: (Helen, MW; )
      • New models (Keisha, adaptation of Ecological Footprint calculator; Victor integration of TEEMSS probeware components)
      • Integration of Doug Clarke's discussion system
      • revised models (Kevin, Airbags)
      • MW and Flash connection
      • Instrumenting models for logging (Pedagogica models; MW models; NetLogo models; ...)
    • Client deployment robustness
    • Authoring content management
    • Authoring tool

  • Discussions have been promised -
  • Is Authoring needed for Oct.?
    • Can use Wise 2 Authoring for Oct.
    • Use internal authoring tool so CC and Berkeley can add logging to interactive steps. This tool will evolve into something the Grad students can use.
  • Jim's java programmer is from Colorado School of Mines
    • Background is hard coding java to do Materials development.
  • First Week in Sept perhaps plan a meeting with Tony, and Java programmer from Toronto.
  • Try to use SDS as a common backend for both WISE and the MP.
