Tips for testing a WISE -> SAIL project conversion

Open the project as a test user.  Go through every activity.  Make sure the steps are all numbered and that all the menus expand/contract properly.

Things to look for on every page:

1) Missing graphics and squished/stretched graphics

2) Broken links to other pages

3) Weird characters

4) Text that is cutoff or unreadable due to size/font/background color

Go through each step but make sure to do some of them out of sequence.  Press cancel and close/restart the activity in the middle to make sure it is saving your work.

  • For each step that has hyperlinks, click on all links and make sure the pages open.
  • For each note click the starter sentence button and add text to the note.  Then, close the note, go to a different step, then go back and open the note again---make sure your original text was saved.  If the notes are supposed to be iterative, make sure that they are saving properly throughout the remainder of the activity.
  • If there is a hint button, click it to make sure the hints come up.  Scroll through the hints to ensure that they are all there.
  • For a discussion step, add a new discussion topic and reply to a topic that is already there.  Use the sort/expand/collapse buttons to make sure they work.  Log in as a different user and make sure you can see the original user's comments in the discussion group.
  • For the drawing tool, make a pretty picture.  Use a few of the shapes, change colors, erase, use stamps, etc.  Save your picture and go to a different step.  Make sure to open your drawing up again to see if it really saved your work.
  • For challenge questions, answer the question incorrectly (preferable more than once) and make sure you are getting the proper feedback for an incorrect answer.  Then, answer it correctly.  Make sure it is scoring your answers.
  • Run all Concord models.  Start, stop and reset them.  Try different buttons and settings.  Note any speed issues.
  • Try using the navigation buttons (backward, forward, home).  Are they working as you would expect?

At the end:

  • Click the "show all your notes" button to make sure all your notes have been saved.  Create a pdf and make sure to open the pdf to see if it worked.
  • Check rails to see if your data showed up there.

Other things to consider:

  • If something looks weird in SAIL, look at the same step in WISE.  If it is working there, it is a conversion problem (most likely).
  • Make sure to test on a PC and on a Mac especially for steps that are behaving strangly.
