Concept maps were discussed in a few of the recent WISE meetings as potentially useful for adding to the project.

I was thinking of also the following possible step additions. Please note that these are definitely not high on the priority list. Just thoughts for the future:

  • fill-in-the-blank sections - could be used within assessments; currently I notice multiple-choice questions and free-form answers but no fill-in-the-blank sections...these sections can consist of several words, from which only one word is actually correct given the actual statement to be completed. It is probably better to have words to choose from rather than allowing the students to type a word in, just because different words can mean the same thing and would therefore complicate analysis.
  • Crosswords - students are given clues and they have to choose the appropriate response and place it accordingly
  • A final cumulative section - given at the end of all activities, consisting of something from several of the step types and meant to assess what the student learned in the whole project...if there are several activities, maybe this can be broken up into different sections.
  • Any other ideas or comments to whats above are welcome.
