TELS (the center for Technology Enhanced Learning in Science) brings university researchers together with middle school and high school educators to improve instruction in science. Established by the National Science Foundation as a national Center for Learning and Teaching, TELS is headquartered at the University of California, Berkeley, and is directed by Professor Marcia C. Linn. TELS includes seven universities, a nonprofit educational research and development organization, and seven school districts.
Program
The TELS Partners:

Conduct research to determine how integrating information technology into the curriculum can improve science education for students in grades 6-12

Design and test learning environments that incorporate educational software and simulations of scientific phenomena to help students master complex scientific concepts and methods for scientific inquiry

Design and implement professional development programs that help teachers and schools take advantage of inquiry-based learning

Develop assessments that measure how effectively students use scientific inquiry and how thoroughly they understand the scientific subjects they have been taught
Outcomes
The TELS Partners are:

Increasing the numbers and diversity of teachers who are successfully using proven, inquiry-based curricula enriched by educational technology to impart scientific concepts to their students

Demonstrating gains in students’ understanding of challenging scientific concepts
